Beginning on January 31, 2014, candidates in Wisconsin applying for an initial teaching license in grades Kindergarten through 5 or special education, or for a license as a reading teacher or reading specialist will be required to take and pass the Foundations of Reading test, a test of reading instruction knowledge and skills administered by the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson.

Literacy instructors across the University of Wisconsin System offer a self-paced course designed to support participants’ understanding of the teaching of reading and engage in preparation work for the Foundations of Reading Test (FoRT 190). Registration and engagement in the course is free of charge. This course has enabled open enrollment. Participants can self-enroll in the course.

This is a comprehensive course.Plan to spend 29 hours, or 3 months to 1 year to complete. The free course provides unlimited online access, printable downloads, certificate of completion. It is officially accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA).
