Featured Journals

Journals typically feature collections of writings. They are publications (online and/or in print) that most likely focus on some particular shared area of study. Often, the term "peer reviewed article" may be understood to refer to a journal article. This means the article's review and editorial progress prior to journal publication is understood to follow a certain degree of rigor, editing, and fact checking. 

  • Journal of Technical Writing and Communication. The platform's description notes that this journal "strives to meet the diverse communication needs of industry, management, government, and academia"
  • Philosophy and Rhetoric, per the platform, "invites articles on such topics as the relationship between logic and rhetoric, the philosophical aspects of argumentation (including argumentation in philosophy itself), philosophical views on the nature of rhetoric held by historical figures and during historical periods, psychological and sociological studies of rhetoric with a strong philosophical emphasis, and philosophical analyses of the relationship to rhetoric of other areas of human culture and thought, political theory and law."
  • Reading & Writing. According to the platform, this title includes: "[a]rticles pertaining to processes acquisition, & loss of reading & writing skills. Research articles, critical reviews, theoretical papers, case studies, & book reviews. Publication: models reading & writing, diagnosis & remediation of reading, etc."
  • Reflections: A Journal of Public Rhetoric, Civic Writing & Service Learning. The "about" section of the journal website includes this: "Reflections publishes a lively collection of scholarship on public rhetoric and civic writing, occasional essays and stories both from and about community writing and literacy projects, interviews with leading workers in the field, and reviews of current scholarship touching on these issues and topics."
  • Rhetoric and Public Affairs if published by Michigan State University Press. The website description notes this "is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to the history, theory, and criticism of public discourse," and that articles may attend to "campaigns for social, political, environmental, or economic justice; modes of resistance to those campaigns; situated instances of executive leadership; legislative and judicial deliberations; comparative rhetorics; transnational diplomacy; digital circulation and mediation of public discourse; and/or constitution of political and social identities."  
  • Rhetoric Review. The platform description notes that the journal "publishes manuscripts that explore the breadth and depth of the discipline, including history, theory, writing, praxis, philosophy, professional writing, rhetorical criticism, cultural studies, multiple literacies, technology, public address, graduate education, and professional issues."
  • Technical Communication Quarterly. As described by the platform, articles in this journal " cover a range of topics that include communication design, pedagogical approaches, the role of digital technologies, ethics, the rhetoric of workplaces or professions, the practices of publication management, dialogue between academics and practitioners, research methods, and connections between social practices and organizational discourse."

Databases present collections of content. Many of the library's databases include the full-text of articles from journals, but others have different concentrations. It is worth paying very close attention to the description of the database contents in order to select the "best" database for your project. You may wish to consult both the library catalog and library databases to get the most complete results for your research.
