In the library's database list you can find NoveList, a database that assists fiction readers with finding authors and titles, and NoveList K-8 which is geared towards YA and children's books. Use these databases to find award winners (the navigation layout is the same in each), as well as reviews of titles. We own most Caldecott and Newbury award winners, in addition to many other award winners.
If you want to search for books that received a specific award, you can conduct an advanced search in which you filter for award titles and run a keyword search for the award name.
Then visit our Search@UW library catalog to see if we own those books and have them available for checkout.
In the library's database list you can find Children's Core and Core Collections Complete. Use these databases to find reader recommendations, book descriptions, prize and award winners, and reviews. The navigation for the two is highly similar, with advanced searching options that include but are not limited to: the option to select "book" or "review" as "document type;" to limit to specific recommendation levels (e.g. "essential"); to narrow the range of the publication date; and to specify grade level and fiction or nonfiction.
You can also view practical search suggestions and examples of the Core Collections interface.
As noted, NoveList, NoveList K-8, Children's Core, and Core Collections Complete contain many professional book reviews and even specific book recommendations. In the NoveList databases, search by keyword or title to find a particular book. Then scroll to the bottom to see the reviews. A basic search by title or keyword in the Core Collections databases will also place reviews for a title at the bottom of the results. Or, an advanced search gives you to filter the document type to "review" from the outset.
Reading multiple reviews is important, as each publication has a different perspective. Here are some of the publications you will see:
