What are Special Collections?

The UW-Superior Special Collections & Archives seeks to build a research collection of high quality by identifying, collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials relating to Northwestern Wisconsin as well as the communities surrounding Lake Superior and the upper Great Lakes. As an integral part of the teaching and research functions of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Special Collections seeks to support research for students, faculty and staff as well as the broader community. Areas of concentration include:

  • Local government of Douglas & Washburn Counties
  • Great Lakes maritime history & industry
  • Transportation
  • Sciences and the environment
  • Community and community groups in Superior
  • The University of Wisconsin-Superior, including manuscript collections from the UW-Superior student, staff, faculty, and alumni community
