Welcome

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Special Collections & Archives (UWS-SCA) collects, preserves, and provides access to not only the history of the institution itself, but its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and surrounding community. These artifacts include everything from yearbooks, photographs, publications, flyers and posters, attire, audiovisual media, and much, much more. Like a museum, SCA contains unique and rare objects not found anywhere else, but like a library, allows patrons to work with and study them in-person for their research needs.

Our goal is to build and maintain these focused historical collections as an integral part of the teaching and research functions of the University. UWS-SCA seeks to support this through primary and unique source reference and instruction for students, faculty, staff, and researchers from around the world.

Our collection areas include:

  • The University of Wisconsin-Superior, including our students, staff, faculty, and alumni
  • Lake Superior maritime history
  • Douglas & Washburn County government records
  • Rare books, manuscripts, and other work
