About the Lake Superior Maritime Collection

The Lake Superior Maritime Collection at the JDH Library contains materials that tell the story of maritime history relating to communities surrounding Lake Superior, including local maritime history of the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior. Information and images about ships, the shipping industry, and shipwrecks are all part of the Maritime collection. Some highlights of the collection are:

  • Over 7,000 ship files containing vessel data, news clippings, and images
  • Ship blueprints - original blueprints of vessels
  • Shipping news articles from various Great Lakes publications
