Family Study Room Policy

Responsibility: Children under 13 must always be accompanied by their parent/caregiver. Parents and caregivers are responsible for supervising the actions of their children. Children are expected to behave respectfully and not disruptive to other Library users, staff, materials, furniture, and facilities. If a child under the age of 13 is found unaccompanied the Library staff will make reasonable attempts to contact the parent/caregiver, afterwards we will reach out to the UW-Superior Campus Police for assistance. The Family Study Room key should always remain with the borrower.

Restrooms: Parents and caregivers must use their discretion regarding the restroom for the children in their care. A changing table is available in the gender-neutral restroom on the first floor.

Noise Consideration: The first floor of the Library and the Family Study Room are not designated as quiet spaces; however, reasonable, regular speaking volumes must be maintained. Volumes on screens or devices must be regulated so that they cannot be heard by those outside of the Family Study Room.

Family Room Furniture, Technology, and Toys: The items provided for children in the Family Study Room are to be used in that room only. They may not be moved to other areas of the Library, nor checked out. No one may stand on, put feet on, turn upside down, stack, or otherwise misuse the furniture in the Family Study Room. Make sure electrical outlet covers are replaced when not in use. All use of electronics and technology in the Family Study Room should be supervised. There are children’s educational materials and books available on the second floor. Emergency Procedures: Review the emergency procedures in the room for security and emergency services. Parents/caregivers should be familiar with evacuation routes.

Time Limit: The Family Study Room can be checked out or reserved for a limit of 2 hours at a time based on availability. The room reservation may be renewed at the front desk if there are no other bookings. This is the policy for all study rooms.

Non-adherence to policies may result in restriction of access to study rooms.
