Canvas Cases Analysis

by CLIC @ JDHL on 2023-01-03T13:44:50-06:00 | 0 Comments

The CLIC DLE team tracks all Canvas-related cases to better determine the needs of our Canvas users. Our most recent analysis from the Fall semester showed that users most often contacted us about importing course content, using Kaltura / My Media, and the Assignments or Quizzes tools.

  • Course Imports: This Canvas guide goes over how to use the Course Import Tool. We recommend using the “Select Specific Content” option, as it lessens the chance of duplicating content. Importing “All Content” can result in duplicate Pages, Assignments, etc. in your course that will need to be manually deleted. We also recommend not importing ad hoc Announcements and Calendar Events from previous terms, as they won’t be relevant for future terms. Information that was previously included in the Student Information Module is now automatically included in every course as the Student Information link in the Course Navigation. Please don’t publish Student Information Modules from previous terms, as the information is no longer current. Watch for an upcoming Welcome Week workshop about how to prevent and clean up duplicate content in your course.
  • How to Use Audio and Video in Canvas: Our KnowledgeBase article, How to Create and Manage Audio and Video Using Kaltura My Media, provides basic information about using Kaltura and multimedia in Canvas. You can search our KB for other Kaltura-related information, as well as review KB articles from UW System.
  • Canvas Guides: The Canvas Instructor Guide is a great resource that answers most common questions about Assignments and Quizzes, but we are happy to respond to any questions or set up a 1:1 consultation.

Going into the next term, here is a reminder about How to Get Help Using Canvas and Kaltura My Media. Please reach out to Canvas@uwsuper.edu if you have any questions.
