Summer 2020 Course Design and Engagement Initiative

Summer 2020 Course Design and Engagement Initiative

The initiative is comprised of two main parts: A professional development course for instructors, and a review process for redesigned courses – one per instructor. The purposes of the initiative are to:

  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning course experiences no matter the modality to retain and recruit our students to UW-Superior.
  • Comply with rapidly evolving expectations from accreditors and other external bodies for demonstrated process of professional development and training provided to instructors to ensure high academic quality in online or remote delivery instruction.
  • Minimize the risk and stress to our instructors of an unexpected (but possible shift) in modality due to COVID-19 surge or peak activity in fall;
  • Expand our knowledge, skill and ability base in the use of technology enhanced tools such as Canvas, digital media and other best practice research-based learning resources.
  • Deepen our commitment and understanding of how to incorporate the “culture of care” into our instructional design.
  • Contribute as only instructors can to the fiscal and enrollment future positioning of UW-Superior in this chaotic environment.
