Great Lakes Maritime History Project: Wisconsin Maritime History from numerous locations (including UW-Superior), brought together in a searchable database. This is part of the larger "State of Wisconsin" collection. To search only the Maritime collection, click on "Search the Collection." Select Guided Search from the toolbar at the top of the screen, and select the Great Lakes Maritime History Project as a Sub-Collection. A new phase of digitization is underway in 2008-2009. Watch for additions to appear soon!

Alpena County (MI) Public Library: Alpena Public Library is the access point for viewing the ship database of the Thunder Bay (MI) Underwater Marine Sanctuary. The database was created with the cooperation of UWS through a joint digitization project that includes the of images from the Ken Thro Collection of the Lake Superior Maritime Collections. The Ken Thro images will soon be available through UWS as well as Alpena. (Launch date for Alpena page: Aug. 2008)


Lake Superior Marine Museum Association: In addition to Association information, the LSMMA Homepage provides a live camera mounted on the Corps of Engineers Building next to the Aerial Lift Bridge, as well as a list of current commercial vessel traffic.

Jim Dan Hill Library Catalog: Search for books and "published" documents on maritime history in the UW-Superior Library. Not all Maritime periodical holdings are as yet in the electronic catalog.

Milwaukee Public Library Catalog: Milwaukee Public Library has an extensive SHIP FILE collection. Searching by typing the Vessel name as a TITLE search will discover if they have a file on that vessel.

Baker Library, Harvard University: Baker Library holds 3 linear feet (17 boxes) of the business papers of Charles Wetmore and the American Steel Barge Company. The collection is available by appointment only. The Minnesota Historical Society holds microfilm copies of these records.
