Reserves - Adding E-Reserves

What Type Of Materials Can Be Added To E-Reserves?

Book chapters, photocopied articles, study guides, sample exams, links to Web sites, etc. can be added to the electronic reserve collection. At this time, the electronic reserves collection does not include audio or video formats.

What Copyright Requirements Must Be Met?

All materials for the e-reserve collection must meet copyright requirements.  The Library will not place materials on electronic reserves if it judges that the nature, scope, or extent of the material is beyond the reasonable limits of the Fair Use Guidelines of the Copyright Law.

It is the responsibility of the faculty member to ensure the material meets the guidelines and to obtain permission to use copyrighted materials to the Library's reserves must agree to the following statements:

  1. I acknowledge having read the Jim Dan Hill Library's reserve copyright guidelines and agree that the materials I submit are in compliance with this interpretation of the US Copyright Law.
  2. When required, I received permission from the copyright holder to provide access to the material I am submitting.
How Do I Submit E-Reserves Materials?

ELECTRONIC METHODS (preferred for faster processing):

Information, such as study guides, exams, etc. which are in electronic form may be sent electronically to the library or submitted on disk (3 1/2" floppy).  We can accept documents in Wordperfect, Word, HTML, or Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF (Portable Document Format) format.

Links to full-text journals available online, such as JSTOR, Expanded Academic ASAP, or to other Internet sites can also be done as a part of your electronic reserves materials.  Static URLs are preferred.  We will attempt to make a "copy" of articles that are at dynamic URLs in order to make it accessible.

PAPER METHODS

Print information is also accepted such as book chapters or journal articles should be submitted in their original form whenever possible.  Photocopies will be accepted only if they are very clean and readable and have no black edges.

As with traditional reserves, all photocopies should include the author's name(s), book/journal title, date (including volume, issue number for journals) on the first page, and the statement of copyright.

Be sure to include the instructor's name and the class number with each reserve request.

How Long Will It Take?

Materials submitted in electronic form or re-links of previous e-reserves will be available within three days (Monday to Friday) of receipt in the Library.  (E-reserves re-link requests must be within copyright law guidelines.)

Materials submitted in paper format will require at least two weeks.

Please note that the beginning of the semester is very busy and additional processing time (2 weeks +) may be needed.

When Can I Submit Materials?

Materials may be submitted at any time during the semester.  Please note on the form the term for which the material is to be available.  Additionally, please note:

The Following Deadlines Will Apply For Fall 2008 Reserves:Reserve materials and requests received in the library by August 18 will be ready for student use Tuesday, September 2.
