CITE YOUR SOURCES

Style guides for MLA, APA, and Chicago formats are available in the library at the Reference desk, in the Reference collection, and on Reserve.
Be consistent using one format for your project.

For online help for using the three styles (brief guidelines from the Writing Center at UW Madison) see Style Guides, also linked to the Quick Reference and Subject Guide pages.

RefWorks is an online resource that can help build a bibiliography and save citiations.  Create an account for yourself, save citations into RefWorks folders as you gather resources, select the format for the bibliography, and set up a resources list that only needs checking and correcting instead of typing or pasting in each item.  If you have an assignment with many sources, it is probably worth the time to learn to use RefWorks.  The links on the library web page include instructions and tutorials.

Reference Librarians will help you look up reference styles for particular sources.  Also, the Writing Center has student consultants who can meet with you to discuss citation formats and other parts of the process of putting together your paper. It is located in Sundquist 119. Call 394-8095 for more information.
